About this episode

Being a newcomer in any field can be as daunting as it is thrilling. What skills do you need? What’s expected of you? How do you make your mark? The list of questions is endless. In this episode of The Treasury Career Corner podcast, Tom Balish, the Global Treasurer at Boston Consulting Group, shares his interesting “origin story” as well as strategies for newcomers looking to build a career in treasury. Tom’s career has had its fair share of “twists and turns,” but it’s made for an interesting journey. He started out in the military, then transitioned into an investment banker role at J.P. Morgan, and even had a brief stint as a writer. It wasn’t until after his teaching career that he landed a treasury role at Harvard University. Since then, he’s gone on to work at Staples as an Assistant Treasurer and Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Inc. in various high-level treasury roles. Established in 1963, the Boston Consulting Group is a global management consulting firm. Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, the organisation has a presence in over 50 countries with up to 22,000 employees. As a pioneer in business strategy, the firm currently partners with business leaders to leverage their best opportunities and solve their tasking problems in the process.
