I think Amazon, Dell and Man Utd got this wrong…is your company stuck in 2019?

Manchester United made headlines recently as they “invited” employees to resign if they didn’t comply with their new policy:

No more working from home.

This isn’t just Man Utd, though…

Companies like Dell and Amazon have done the same, demanding employees return to the office full-time.

But here’s the thing: what does this really say about those companies?

For me, it sends a clear message—they don’t trust their staff.

And let me tell you, as a recruiter, this is a goldmine!

I’d happily park myself outside their offices, business cards in hand, ready to offer those frustrated employees a different option—one that doesn’t involve sitting at a desk five days a week, pretending it’s 2019.

I had a client, right after the COVID lockdowns, who insisted their team needed to be in the office full-time. They said, “We’re a bit more traditional and prefer to keep things paper-based.”

So, I had to tell them, we can’t help you.

No one was going to accept that kind of working environment anymore.

If you’re asking your staff to come in five days a week now, in 2024, you’re sending the wrong message. And your office will soon be emptier than you think.

On the flip side, if you’re a treasury professional being forced back into the office at gunpoint (or risk getting the P45), it might be time for a change…

There are plenty of companies out there that trust their teams to work flexibly, and I’d be happy to help you find one of them.

Best regards,

Mike
